Standing Fishes, bugges by night and other biblical miracles.

I have gotten my hands on the full list of Bibles with misprints and unusual readings and I decided to share some of the best with you:

Bug Bible (1535)

Psalms 91:5 “Thou shall not nede to be afrayed for eny bugges by night”

Later translated as terrors.

Breeches Bible (1579)

Genesis 3:7 “and they sowed figge-tree leaves together, and made themselves breeches.

Later translated as aprons.

Place-makers’ Bible (1562)

Matthew 5:9 reads “Blessed are the placemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

Was supposed to be peacemakers.

Wicked Bible (1631)

Exodus 20:14 “Thou shalt commit adultery.”

Famous ommision of not.

Deuteronomy 5:24 “The Lord hath showed us his glory and his great arse.”

Was supposed to be greatness.

Almost all copies of this bible were burned; few still exist including one copy that is for sale for $89,500.

The Forgotten Sins Bible (1638)

Luke 7:47 to “Her sins which are many, are forgotten

Was supposed to be forgiven.

The Lions Bible (1804)

Numbers 25:18 “The murderer shall surely be put together

Was supposed to be to death.

Kings 8:19 “…but thy son that shall come forth out of thy lions…”

Was supposed to be loins.

The More Sea Bible (1641)

Revelation 21:1“ the first heaven and the first earth were passed away and there was more sea.”

Was supposed to be there was no more sea.

The Printers Bible (1702)

Psalm 119:161 “Printers have persecuted me without a cause”

Was supposed to be princes.

The Rebekah’s Camels Bible (1823)

Genesis 24:61 read “And Rebecca arose, and her camels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebecca and went his way.”

Was supposed to be damsels.

The Sin On Bible (1716)

John 5:13 “Go and sin on more

Was supposed to be sin no more.

The Standing Fishes Bible (1806)

Ezekiel 47:10 read “And it shall come to pass, that the fishes shall stand upon it from Engedi even unto Eneglaim; they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many”

Was supposed to be fisherers.

The Unrighteous Bible (1653)

I Corinthians 6:9 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall inherit the kingdom of God?…”

Was supposed to be shall not inherit.

The Wife-hater Bible (1810)

Luke 14:26 “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own wife also, he cannot be my disciple.”

Was supposed to be life.

Discharge Bible (1806)

I Timothy 5:21 read “I discharge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.”

Was supposed to be charge.

Owl Bible (1944)

1 Peter 3:5 read, “For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their owl husbands.”

Was supposed to be own.

Murderer’s Bible (1801)

Jude 16 read: “These are murderers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.”

Was supposed to be murmurers.

King James II New Testament (1970)

John 1:5 “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness overcomes it.”

Was supposed to be does not overcome it.

Fool’s Bible (1600)

In Psalm 14:1 it reads, “The fool hath said in his heart, there is a God.”

Was supposed to be there is no God.

Jerusalem Bible (1966)

Psalms 122:6 “Pay for peace”

Was supposed to be pray.

Wife Beater Bible (1549)

I Peter 3:7 “ Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”*
